Outlaws known as betyárok were iconic figures of 18th–19th century Hungary. They were often runaway farmhands, deserter soldiers, or people pushed to the margins of society, roaming the Great Hungarian Plain and the Transdanubian region while fleeing from the authorities. They were seen both as lawbreakers and as folk heroes: although they robbed and looted, tradition holds that they often took from the rich and helped the poor.
Their romantic image, free way of life, the world of countryside taverns (csárdák), and the atmosphere of the Hungarian plains remain an important part of national heritage. The design of Rustico Restaurant is inspired by this very folk world—reflecting the rustic mood of the betyár era, the warm, earthy character of the old csárdák, and the authenticity of traditional Hungarian culture.
